Studies on Protein Synthesis of Maternal Liver and Fetus After Partial Hepatectomy

Abstract
This study was undertaken to observe the interrelationship of protein synthesis between maternal regenerating liver and fetus by measuring the incorporation rate of L-lysine-C14.
In non-hepatectomized rats, the incorporation rate into plasma protein was faster in pregnant rats but no difference of the incorporation rate vas noted in other organs; regenerating liver, kidney, heart and adrenals, between pregnantand non-pregnant rats.
In hepatectomized rats (40 hrs. post-hepatectomy), the incorporation rate into liver proteir. revealed equally increased rate in non-pregnant and pregnant rats. The incorporation rate into protein of .intact fetus was rot influenced by partial hepatectomy but the number of fetal resorption ~Nas significantly increased in hepatectomized pregnant rats.
